Make a Delta Wing Jaguar Paper Plane

Make a Delta Wing Jaguar Paper Plane

Make a Delta Wing Jaguar Paper Plane
Difficulty:
Medium
Synopsis:
This standard paper plane is a unique step away from the traditional pointy nosed paper airplane in its' box like but voracious jet inspired air intake. The plane will end up being smaller than you probably expect but it really does fly well if folded carefully.

Instructions

This interesting looking square craft works best with light to medium weight paper. Start with a letter size sheet.

1. Start with a SQUARE sheet. Fold the paper exactly in half so the top point hits the bottom point. When folded correctly, a diagonal crease should be created from left to right across the paper. Unfold after the crease has been made.

2. Rotate the paper around so the crease just made is vertical.

3. Fold the paper exactly in half so the top point hits the bottom point. When folded correctly, a diagonal crease should be created from left to right across the paper. Unfold the paper after the crease has been made.

4. Make a crease to fold the bottom point up so it hits the vertical center line crease. The crease should be about one finger width below the existing horizontal crease. Be sure the center line creases line up.

5. Flip the paper over so the pointed end is at the upper right corner. The flap just created should be underneath.

6. Fold the bottom edge over about the existing crease at the bottom of the paper.

7. Flip the paper over, keeping the pointed end at the top. The narrow flap folded down at the bottom edge should be underneath.

8. Fold the top point of the top-most flap down so it hits the bottom edge of the paper. When folded correctly, the RIGHT diagonal edge should line up with the bottom edge of the paper. Unfold after the crease has been made.

9. Fold the top point of the top-most flap down so it hits the bottom edge of the paper. When folded correctly, the LEFT diagonal edge should line up with the bottom edge of the paper. Unfold after the crease has been made.

10. Rotate the paper around so the pointed end points up and to the left.

11. Pop the left and right triangles up and fold over and down. When folded correctly, all the flaps should come together and a new flap should stick straight up from the planes main body. Two new creases must be created to bring the two layers of the new flap together.

12. Fold the new flap, which sticks straight up, over to the left so the top point hits the bottom edge of the paper.

13. Fold the bottom point of the small triangular flap up and over so it hits the point created by the creases on the center line crease. When folded correctly, the bottom edge should line up with the center line crease. Unfold after the crease has been made.

14. Open up the two layers of the small triangular flap and bring the whole flap in towards the middle. Bring the middle layers furthest apart and bring the point at the top down, pressing the fold flat down. When folded correctly, two new creases should be created to press the

15. Flip the plane over and rotate it so the nose points down and to the right. The flaps just folded should be underneath.

16. Fold the bottom edge of the plane over about the line created by the existing flap on the bottom edge. When folded correctly, the point on the tip of the flap sticking out from the body should line up with the center line crease.

17. Rotate the plane around so the long edge points up and to the left.

18.Fold the point at the tip of the top-most flap over bringing it to the outside of the plane. Four new creases must be made to bring the left and right edges of the flap together. When folded correctly, the new flap has two layers each completely covering the other. This is a difficult fold, take time to get it right.

19. Rotate the plane around so the nose points to the left.

20. Fold the plane in half about the existing center line crease. Be sure to line up the wing flaps for good balance.

21. Rotate the plane around so the nose points to the right and the wing flaps point up.

22. Flip the plane over so the wing flaps are pointed down and the nose points to the right.

23. Fold the top point down so it hits the left edge of the wing flaps. The right point of the crease should be where the existing creases come together at the middle right edge. Unfold after the crease has been made.

24. Rotate the plane around so the nose points up and the wing flaps point to the right.

25. Flip the plane over so the nose points up and the wing flaps point to the left.

26. Open the wing flaps up so the plane is flat on the working surface.

27. Fold the wing flaps together, popping the tail section up and in. When folded correctly, the tail section should be between the wing flaps and completely hidden from view.

28. Rotate the plane around so the nose points to the right and the wing flaps point up.

29. Make a crease for the first wing flap. The crease should follow along the line of the nose. The left point of the crease should be at the point where the nose hits the fuselage.

30. Flip the plane over and rotate it around so the first wing flap is underneath and the nose is pointing to the left.

31. Make a crease for the second wing flap. Be sure to line up the wing flaps for good balance.

32. Open the wing flaps and adjust the wing angles so they are even. Set the dihedral angle slightly up. Set no elevator since this plane has a tendency to stall.

THE THROW Launch this pe wlanith a soft level throw and it will float rather straight. If it tends to roll, make sure the large vertical tail is straight and even. This craft can be made to loop by launching with a medium throw at a large up angle.
